Reid Continues To Impress Despite Difficulty At Duns
Justin Reid and Team Can Am travelled to the South-East of Scotland at the weekend, the picturesque Duns Motocross Circuit just inland from Berwick-upon-Tweed the venue for the 2nd round of the 2009 ACU British MMX Quad Championship. After a promising start to the 2009 season at both British and Ulster level, Justin travelled to the border venue in confident mood and looking forward to a good result, Justin showing that he is back on the pace after qualifying 3rd overall, overcoming a difficult first race retirement with a burst radiator hose for another fantastic top ten finish in moto two.

Race One
A fast flowing hardpack circuit with many combinations of huge jumps, straights and rhythm sections, the Duns circuit is one of the favourite venues of the series for many riders. With the Team Can Am DS450x MX working like a dream in practice, Justin set a blistering lap to qualifying 3rd and a good pick of gate. As the gates dropped for the first of the two twenty-five minute plus two-lap motos, Justin got boxed in on the approach to the first corner and dropped back to 9th. Quickly getting up to speed on the opening lap of the 1.25 mile circuit, Justin began to work his way through the field, moving up to 6th with three laps run. Involved in a three way battle for 4th with the leading trio still in touch and less than a quarter of the total time lapsed, Justin was well placed for a top five position when lady luck struck a cruel blow, a radiator hose bursting and the resultant loss of coolant forcing Justin to retire from the race.

Race Two
Lining up on his spare bike for the final moto, Justin again got a decent start and slotted in to 9th. With the glorious sunshine having baked the circuit and dust now evident in many parts, Justin gradually increased his pace in the opening few laps and began to mount a challenge for 8th. Dropping back to 11th at the halfway point after a slight mistake on the approach to the uphill double saw him come up short on landing, Justin quickly refocused and battled hard for the remainder of the race, Justin taking the chequered flag after thirteen frantic laps for a hard fought 10th.

Reid
‘Today is has been so frustrating… On one hand I’m so happy to be back on the pace and running at the sharp end of the pack but on the other my championship hopes suffered badly today. My Can-Am was handling so well here, especially though the rollers before the big table top, where I passed about 3 guys in one go early in the race. I had to use my practice bike in the second moto, as I’m still waiting for some parts for my spare Xmx that are stuck in customs, which is a little tired - consequently I didn’t have the power to make some of the bigger jumps cleanly so it was a bit of a grind but I’m happy to have finished in the top 10.’
